For 37 years, Grace Bigelow has been a member of the LRH family. Starting as a nurse on the Medical/Surgical Unit, Grace quickly became a House Coordinator on the 3PM to 11PM shift. After earning her Master's Degree in Nursing, Grace became an instructor at the Berlin Technical College, helping to train new nurses to serve the North Country, while continuing to do Per Diem nursing at LRH. After retiring from teaching, a call from her friend, Ann Wiggett, RN, led her back to LRH and becoming an Oncology /Hematology nurse.
When Grace's beloved husband of six short years, Harold, became seriously ill, she experienced another side of LRH... receiving the compassionate and skilled care she had always so willingly given. Harold was in the ICU for five days before being moved to the LRH Hospice Room, where he lived for three days. Grace was by his side and saw the comfort and understanding provided, not because he was the spouse of an employee, but because that's what our team does.
Grace's appreciation of all that was done for Harold and for her as a family member made her decide to make a very generous gift to LRH to benefit other families who would use the Hospice Room. Indeed, Grace's kindness will make a lasting difference for other families. We are grateful for all of the members of our LRH family, especially our donors who so graciously support our mission.
