January 4, 2017
Littleton, NH - Recently Medicare.gov provided Hospital Compare ratings based on 57 quality measures of more than 100 measures reported on Hospital Compare. Littleton Regional Healthcare rated four stars, placing LRH in the top 25% of hospitals across the US.
The measures that hospitals are rated on include seven categories including mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care, and efficient use of medical imaging. Hospitals may not be able to report data on all measures due to the number or type of patients they treat.
Hospital Compare was created through the efforts of the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in collaboration with organizations representing consumers, hospitals, doctors, employers, accrediting organizations, and other federal agencies. Hospital Compare has information about the quality of care at more than 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals across the US.
According to Medicare.gov, when comparing hospitals consumers should choose a hospital based on which hospitals has the best experience with any pre-existing conditions that need to be treated. Consumers should also take into consideration if a hospital performs well on measures of quality, including a national patient survey that can be found on the Hospital Compare website. The hospital should participate in Medicare and meet the consumer's needs in terms of location, and visiting hours. Lastly, it is important to be sure that a hospital is covered by your health plan.
Nick Braccino, President at LRH states, "I am pleased to see that LRH received a four star rating in the to 25% of 4,599 hospitals across the US. The staff at LRH work hard to ensure the high quality, safe care for each patient we care for. This rating reflects above the National average for patient experience."
