Family Support Team Training at LRH
September 17, 2014
Littleton, NH - As part of Littleton Regional Healthcare's continued efforts to provide exceptional patient and family centered care to our community, the Hospital implemented a Family Support Team on September 1, 2009. The next Semi-Annual Family Support Team training will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 9:30 through 5:00 in the Medical Office Building Conference Room at Littleton Regional Hospital.
Sudden, unexpected health crisis is a traumatic event not only for the patient, but also for family and friends of the patient. Immediate and long-term support, access to resources and referral to community outreach programs can assist loved ones in getting through such an event. The mission of the Littleton Regional Healthcare Family Support Team is to offer supportive care to family and other loved ones of our patients experiencing unexpected severe illness, critical traumatic injury or sudden, unexpected death.
The Family Support Team provides support to the families and loved ones of our patients in two very distinct ways. First, in-hospital support is provided by volunteers who serve as a quiet presence for families to lean on, and who help orient loved-ones to our facility, assist the family in accessing resources and serve as a family liaison to the clinical staff. Secondly, Family Support Team volunteers help coordinate bereavement resources for families experiencing a loss at our facility, including providing survivors with information about support groups and other community resources to help with their grief.
