Gale Medical Library Praises Libraries during National Library Week April 8-14
April 12, 2018
(Littleton, NH) - Last week, libraries across the US observed National Library Week. Gale Medical Library at Littleton Regional Healthcare (LRH) supports the good work of all types of libraries.
Anne M. Conner, MLS, Director, Gale Medical Library at LRH
Gale Medical Library is open to the community. It's different than a public library in that most of its collection focuses on health-related information. Part of the library is for the clinical staff. However, the Anna Connors Patient & Family Resource Center contains materials geared to the person without a healthcare background. The public is welcome to come to the library during regular business hours.
This year's Library Week theme was "Libraries Lead". Anne Conner, a trained health sciences librarian, will lead you to answers about your health. Given the size of the Internet, it's not always easy to tell the difference between what's true and what's not. For example, googling "cold or flu" brings up 101 million hits. One of the first "hits" is a link to a company advertising its products to treat these ailments. Anne recommends MedlinePlus as the best place to look for health info. To access this website, go to www.medlineplus.gov.
The Anna Connors Patient & Family Resource Center just added several new books to its collection. Titles of the new books include The Migraine Miracle, Headaches: relieving and preventing migraine and other headaches, The Sleep Solution: why your sleep is broken and how to fix it, and How To Live Well with Chronic Pain and Illness: a mindful guide. The collection also has many books focusing on wellness and lifestyle.
For more information, visit the Gale Medical Library at LRH. The library is right near the hospital cafeteria. The library is usually open Monday-Friday during business hours. But, it's best to call Anne at 603-444-9564 to be sure the library will be open. You may also visit the Library's webpage.
