LRH announces the opening of a Retail Pharmacy
April 19, 2018
Littleton, NH - Littleton Regional Healthcare (LRH) will open North Country Pharmacy in June that will be located on the ground floor of the LRH Medical Office Building. LRH expects to improve patient outcomes and quality with an on-site pharmacy. One of the top reasons patients are readmitted to the hospital is because they do not take medications prescribed upon discharge. The onsite pharmacy will allow patients to have their discharge medications in-hand before leaving the hospital.
Patients who use the LRH physician practices will also benefit from this new program. Studies show that patients with chronic disease (e.g. arthritis, diabetes) who are managed well have lower readmission rates. Taking medications the right way is a big part of chronic disease management. A handy on-site pharmacy plays an important role in this process. Integrating the onsite pharmacy with care at the hospital allows pharmacists to identify at-risk patients. They will then work with the outpatient care coordinators to make sure patients understand how to take their medications correctly. Healthcare visits can be stressful. Easy access to the onsite pharmacy means patients no longer need to stop at a pharmacy on the way home. In-patients at LRH will now receive prescriptions before discharge, another added convenience following an in-patient stay at LRH.
Robert Nutter, President states, "We are pleased to offer a retail pharmacy on-site at Littleton Regional Healthcare. This will allow LRH to bring patients their prescriptions to bedside "meds to beds" before discharge, eliminating the need for patients and their families to stop at the pharmacy. We expect this new service can only increase patient satisfaction."
