May 23, 2018
Littleton, NH - On Monday, May 14th 360 women from all over New England came together for Littleton Regional Healthcare's 27th Annual North Country Women's Health Conference.
Participants coming from as far away as Rhode Island and Connecticut gathered at the OMNI Mount Washington Resort for this daylong celebration focusing on women's physical and emotional wellbeing. They learned from lectures on important women's wellness issues, visited 37 vendors who filled the Presidential Spa & Conference Center, participated in free health screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose, and enjoyed Reiki and free chair massages. Attendees chose from eighteen lectures on traditional and complementary medicine, from nutrition, sleep issues affecting women, incontinence, cardiac care, staying active after menopause to reducing pain with yoga therapy, anxiety, and taking care of your feet.
LRH partnered with the North Country Health Consortium/Northern NH Area Health Education Center again this year to offer sessions geared toward physicians, nurses and behavioral health specialists so participants could gain continuing education credits by attending.
Kelly Swanson was this year's keynote speaker. Swanson is an award-winning storyteller, comedian, motivational speaker, author of Who Hijacked My Fairy Tale, and cast member of The Fashion Hero TV show. She makes audiences laugh, helps individuals see beyond their obstacles and helps everyone tap into the power of their own story. Swanson captured the attention of everyone that this year's conference and provided an uplifting and inspirational keynote.
Special guest speaker, the former Chief Justice Judge John T. Broderick, Jr. shared his poignant story to raise awareness about mental health. In 2016, Judge Broderick agreed to co-chair the first statewide health awareness campaign called Change Direction. After becoming Senior Director of Public Affairs at Dartmouth Hitchcock in April 2017, the mental health awareness campaign Judge Broderick was spearheading was enhanced through the joint efforts of Dartmouth- Hitchcock and the NH Department of Education to incorporate R.E.A.C.T. The goals of both are simple and important to make the five most common signs of mental illness as widely known as the signs of a stroke or heart attack - and to teach people how to react when they find the signs of mental illness in someone they know or love. More than 130 participants attended Judge Broderick's presentation at this year's conference.
