Littleton Regional Healthcare (LRH) has maintained accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for 10 consecutive years, demonstrating its commitment to the provision of high-quality care for people who have sleep problems. LRH recently received notification of this milestone accreditation.
“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Littleton Regional Healthcare on meeting the rigorous standards required to maintain accreditation for sleep services,” said AASM President, Dr. Eric J. Olson. “AASM accreditation is the gold standard for sleep care, giving patients confidence and peace of mind when they seek help for a sleep disorder,” he added.
AASM-accredited sleep centers provide diagnostic and therapeutic care for people who have problems related to sleep and alertness. Sleep disorders include obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy.
To receive and maintain accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional healthcare as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance. Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.
The AASM accredited a sleep disorders center for the first time in 1977. Today, there are more than 2,300 AASM-accredited sleep centers across the country.
The AASM is a medical society for physicians, researchers, and other healthcare professionals in the field of sleep medicine. As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers, the AASM advances sleep care and enhances sleep health to improve lives.
Rachel Shellabarger, RST, RPSGT, CRT, serves as the Service Line Director for Sleep Medicine at LRH. “This accreditation is an important acknowledgment of the standards we strive to maintain at LRH,” noted President and Chief Executive Officer of LRH, Robert Nutter. “Rachel and her team have made great strides in recent years to optimize the program, introduce advanced technological solutions, and ensure patients are getting the care they need close to home,” added Nutter.
