Littleton Regional Healthcare Hosts 50th Annual Volunteer Recognition Event

Littleton Regional Healthcare (LRH) recently held its 50th annual volunteer recognition event on June 4, 2025. The event celebrated the “golden anniversary” of the volunteer program at LRH, and honored LRH’s many volunteers for their continued support of the organization.

The evening included a dinner, special awards ceremony, and presentation of pins for years and hours of service. Dawn Lambert, Volunteer Coordinator at LRH, welcomed the volunteers and asked for a moment of silence to remember five members of the program that passed away this last year. These individuals included Daphne McDonald, David Morency, Brian Bain, Pauline German, and Sandy Monroe.

Robert Nutter, LRH President and Chief Executive Officer, started the evening by offering his sincere gratitude to the volunteers for their efforts at LRH. Koren Superchi, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer, echoed his message and expressed how vital the volunteers are to the organization and the community it serves. Both executives celebrated the outstanding work the volunteers and thanked them for contributing a collective 8,853 hours of service last year.

To celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the program, past directors and coordinators were invited to attend to be remembered for the foundation and legacy they helped to create.  Charron Sundman, Volunteer Director from 1999 to 2014, spoke about the growth that was seen during her time with the volunteers. Cindy Gadsby, Supportive Therapy Coordinator from 2014 to 2020, also shared stories from the time she spent in her role. Both highlighted how impactful their roles had been in their own personal lives.

As the distribution of awards started, Lambert recognized new and returning volunteers, and then proceeded to award pins for cumulative hours and years of volunteering. Volunteers receiving their 100-hour pins included Debbie Birdsall, Keith Bowles, Ruthie Bowles, Barbara Ehlich, Tony Hinkson, Barbara Langworthy, Lorri Miles, Donna Ridley, Eileen Szanyi, and Brian Wilson. Bob Schrader received a pin for 500 hours of service.

Receiving 1,000-hour pins were Beverly Bettencourt, Grace Bigelow, Susan Strong, and Mary Sturtevant. Geraldine Berger received a pin commemorating 1,500 hours while 2,000-hour pins were presented to Lorraine Fougere, Judy Lavin, and Toni Thomas. Brian Bain, who was one of the dedicated volunteers that the program lost this past year, was remembered for the 2,500 hours he provided. Deb Lehmann and Lilo Rheinstein received pins for 3,000 hours, and Candy Black received one for 3,500 hours. Laurie Morgan was recognized for 4,000 hours while Mike Miscio received a pin to commemorate his 4,500 hours of service.

Next, pins were awarded for milestone years of volunteering. Ten-year pins were awarded to Geraldine Berger, Chick Jordan, and Haley Kelley. Receiving 15-year pins were June Davis, Susan Kraabel, Elaine Marshall, and Tom Marshall. Candy Black and Dottie Herbert each received a pin for 20 years of service, and a 25-year pin was awarded to Cathy Parker.

Jeanne Madden joined Lambert in presenting the “Julia M. Fogg Founder’s Award” in memory of Jewel Fogg, Madden’s mother and founder of the Volunteer Program at LRH. This award is presented each year to the individual that best demonstrates the qualities and attributes essential to the founding and support of the Volunteer Program: care, compassion, leadership, community service, and inspiration. LRH volunteer, Lorraine Fougere, was the 2025 recipient of this award.

The final award of the evening was presented by Gene and Caryn Clark in memory of their parents, Peg and Gene Clark, who were long-time volunteers at LRH. This year’s recipient of the “Peg and Gene Clark Volunteer Award” was Lena Hemenway for her dedication to service and the many hours of volunteer time donated the organization.
