During the recent holiday season, the Nursing Professional Practice Council (NPPC) of LRH organized a campaign to get staff involved in giving back to the communities we serve. Staff elected to contribute funds to support families in need throughout the region. Dozens of local businesses supported the cause by donating prizes that were then raffled off to participating staff throughout the initiative.
The overwhelming support from our staff (nearly $4,000 raised!) was matched dollar-for-dollar by LRH, resulting in almost $8,000 in total contributions. The NPPC coordinated with local schools to distribute the funds to the families that the schools determined could use the support the most.
We want to extend our appreciation to all those involved – our staff who never cease to amaze us, the NPPC for leading the cause and so many other beneficial activities, area businesses for their involvement, and the schools for helping disperse the funds as appropriate. Social determinants of health, like access to affordable housing and food insecurity, are topics identified when we complete our formal Community Health Needs Assessment every three years. At LRH, we strive to always support the health and well-being of this region directly and indirectly, and initiatives such as these allow us to do so.
